Poem notes

This Is Just To Say
BY WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS
I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
When I first read the poem, I felt this is a very short and concise poem. The poem as a whole strikes me as saying something about the author's daily life so there are no metaphors or personification. And this poem lacks rhythm compared to the others. Through the content of the poem, I think the author is confessing something, and the plum in the poem is an allusion to something that the author regrets in reality. I really like the writer use this simple way to write the poem. Everything is close to our life helps us to have the same feeling with the writer. Also, this type of poem is very readable, because every time you reread it, it is possible to discover something hidden by the author.

1.      Why the author uses plum?
2.      What’s the exact thing or even that plum represents?
3.      What’s the meaning of eat?

4.      Why he uses this simple form to write this poem?
